How To Build A Landing Page_Alex Oliveira_Wordcamp 2016

I’ve designed and optimized hundreds of landing pages for campaigns across many industries for dozens of products and services. Later this month I’ll be speaking at WordCamp Miami in a session title “How To Build A Landing Page.”  If you have a website and don’t have a landing page or many landing pages then chances are you’re missing out on converting visitors into leads and leads into customers. A landing page (or “lead capture page” or a “lander”) is a single web page that appears in response to clicking on a search engine optimized search result or an online advertisement. The landing page will usually display directed sales copy that is a logical extension of the advertisement, search result or link. When designed properly a landing page can help convert your visitors into leads.

Here are some of the essential landing page requirements:

  1. Headline- create a compelling headline about your product or service offering
  2. Limited Navigation- don’t add any menu buttons to the header
  3. CTA- add a specific Call-To-Action to the header and/or the sign up buttons
  4. Sign Up Now- test out different colors, shapes and names for your “Sign-Up” button
  5. Form- keep the form short, add validation to the fields and auto fill for city/zip code
  6. Auto Responder- make sure you add a customized message and test the form to verify you’re getting the inquiries sent to your inbox or CRM
  7. Secure– add an SSL certificate.
  8. Terms & Conditions- add T&C’s as well TCPA notice to the bottom of the form that is specific to the nature of your business
  9. Testimonial- add a testimonial or 2 to the bottom of the page
  10. Social Sharing Icons in the Footer- I prefer not to have any Social Media links on the page, but if you do add them to the footer. Any and all kinds of links on a landing page will only drive the visitors away from the landing page.

More Tips…

  • Add the Google Analytics code to the page
  • Must be Responsive Web Design
  • Include Bullet Points
  • Convey The Value Of The Offer
  • Make Sure You Have The Right Hosting Plan

Because if there is an irresistable offer going with an attractive “push” to accept this offer there will be no doubt to choose it. Plus, if it’s as easy and clear as possible it’s fantastic. I’ve read about what makes a good landing page in theory but have had a hard time actually visualizing how they can look.
