Is Your Website ADA Compliant? Neither Is Ours. What To Do Next?

Since 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has required places of public accommodation to meet specific standards for accessibility by persons with disabilities – and now, those “places” have expanded to include websites.  The goal is to make websites more accessible to individuals with disabilities ranging from blindness and low vision and deafness and hearing loss to learning and movement limitations and speech disabilities.  Any company with a website should test its site with the available web accessibility tools, which will search for things like alternative text that can be read through special devices which translate the text through the proper medium, whether it be audio, visual, etc.

Some best practice ideas for ADA compliant captions include:

  • Using easily readable font such as Helvetica Medium, and ensuring correct spelling and punctuation throughout.
  • Positioning one to three lines of text on the screen for three to seven seconds, to be immediately replaced by another set of text.
  • Synchronizing the captions precisely with the audio.
  • Ensuring no graphics or visuals are covered by captions.
  • Sound effects such as music and laughter should be identified in brackets, such as [laughter] to add to understanding.

It’s important that businesses are ready for this transition, which is likely to be formalized in the next year. Prediq Media has the tools and skills to review your website and help make any adjustments necessary to better conform to the web accessibility guidelines.  Contact us today for more information!

Google Partners Connect

During our Google Partners Connect workshop we learned that you’ve worked l really hard to build you’re brand, products, services, and business. Now, we should let the web work for YOU. A whopping 88% of consumers are researching items online and then buying in a physical store. Google Partners can help you increase your items sold, phone calls, foot traffic, appointments booked. Businesses that make use of the web expect to grow 40% faster than those that don’t.

Matt Lawson -Director of Performance Ads Marketing discussed the intersection of mobile and consumer behavior. Winning in mobile requires that we shift our thinking from one where we’re thinking like a technologist to a mindset of psychologist. In order to win in mobile today we have to look out how media has changed in the last few years. We have millions of websites, posts, tweets, snaps and chats. We’re tuning in more than ever and in control of our own media choices. Matt also said that Micro-Moments are the new ‘I want to know’, ‘I want to go’, ‘I want to do’, ‘I want to buy now’ moments. Google helps advertisers unpack these moments. In the last year alone, mobile conversion rates have risen 29% making decisions faster.

Frederick Vallaeys AdWords Evangelist helps you figure out how to connect with your customers, be mobile and tracking everything through measurability. He encouraged utilizing all the services that Google has to grow your business.

These are only some of the highlights from the Google Partners Connect event which you can view in full here.
